The Aure valley

Welcome to the Aure valley, a great Pyrenean valley with easy access to both the Neouvielle Nature Reserve, protected natural scenery, and Spain with the famous Aragon canyons. In St Lary everyone will enjoy the lively character of the village.

You will adore

- Spain, so close, just the other side of the Bielsa tunnel.
- The comfort and the lively character of St Lary
- Family fun in the canyons of the Sensoria Rio Spa baths
- The authentic pastoral atmosphere of Aulon village and its nature reserve
- The away from it all feeling of the Neouvielle Nature Reserve

The Néouvielle Nature Reserve

The Néouvielle Nature Reserve is unique, its completely unspoiled natural environment offers visitors a superb spectacle.
The richness of the flora and fauna, together with the many lakes and sublime scenery, have made the Néouvielle a subject for detailed study and attention. Created in 1936, the Néouvielle Nature Reserve is one of the earliest established in France. Here the natural world is very special - the mountain pines (Pins à Crochets) beat all records for longevity, the native toads can hibernate for over 10 years, the elusive Desman exists only in the Pyrenees and the Cantabrian mountains, and can only survive in the purest of waters, here in the lakes and mountain streams. There are more than 570 types of algae and more than 70 lakes in the 2300 hectares - Aubert, Aumar, Orédon, or Cap de Long, being the largest ones. The many beautiful lakes give the Neouvielle its particular identity. This is a paradise for walkers, there are many possible circuits and the grand tour of the Néouvielle can be done staying in the 5 guarded refuges. In order to preserve and protect the beauty of the site but also to help you explore, many facilities have been created (a visitor centre, parking, way-marked trails, toilets…). Meeting points and themed walks are offered by the National Park wardens in summer.
