Regularly visited by the Tour de France, the Hautes Pyrenees are much appreciated by amateur riders too. No less than 14 cols or mountain top finishes are regularly used by the Tour. The Hautes Pyrenees offers cyclists high quality roads and varied itineraries, great riding on quiet roads - foothills and plains, valleys and mountains, all highly recommended by amateurs and pros alike.
To enhance your riding experience and offer the warmest of welcomes the Department has put a number of measures in place for cyclists- all the major climbs have signs every kilometre advising of gradients and distances whilst car drivers are encouraged by numerous signs to 'share the road' with cyclists.
To set off on a ride in the Hautes Pyrenees is a journey of discovery, great scenery with the thrill of riding the legendary Tour routes.
Between the 25th July and the 29th July follow in the footsteps (or tyre tracks!) of the Tour de France racers, cycling to your heart’s content in complete safety on the cyclist-only mountain passes in the Hautes-Pyrénées! The legendary mountain passes will be closed to motorised traffic and reserved for cyclists in the morning, with no charges, no restrictions, no registration, no rankings and no start or finish.
