" My surprise meeting with a herd of Isard in a wild hidden valley whilst ski touring... unforgettable"
Tell us about your Pyrenees
Wide open spaces, ecologically protected where it is easy to get around, to feel the thrills and the excitement of all kinds.
What would you recommend for thrill seekers in summer?
Without doubt, bungee jumping from Pont Napoleon, 66 metres high with the Gave de Gavarnie beneath your feet... It is a real challenge and a great spectacle to watch for those who prefer to keep their feet on the ground. Personally I love paragliding for the superb feeling of lightness one gets from flying over the mountains.
And in winter?
There is something for everybody. Off-piste skiing from the Pic du Midi, speed riding at Peyragudes, ice climbing at Gavarnie or diving beneath the ice of the lake at Piau-Engaly.
And you very favourite?
The GR10 coast to coast footpath... superb walking between valleys and summits, rushing mountain streams, a picnic on the edge of a lake and the lovely atmosphere of the mountain refuges each evening.
Your ideal weekend in the Hautes Pyrenees?
In winter a day's skiing with lunch in the sun. And maybe add a little originality with an introduction to speed riding. For the evening a vin chaud on the terrace of a village cafe to enjoy the ambience of the village.
In summer a Via Ferrata for a challenge or a lovely walk to escape away from it all.
The secret ingredient to help one spend some lovely moments in the Hautes Pyrenees?
It must be meeting with the locals, always a story to be told, sharing a good idea and plenty of humour.
Your most sensational sensation?
The feeling as I was about to begin the descent of the Pic du Midi on skis. Exciting and impressive... I loved it!
Your favourite memory?
I was ski touring in the Pyrenees National Park in a high wild valley, no tracks, not a single sound... I rounded a small incline and there in front of me was a herd of Isards. They observed me for a few seconds before taking off. A really magical moment!
