The hautes pyrenees by Nathalie
" A relaxing spa after skiing : the speciality of the Hautes Pyrenees"
Tell us about your Hautes Pyrenees.
A region just super for winding down. Ideal for a relaxing break, to take care of yourself, to forget about the daily routine, to enjoy sharing precious moments with your loved ones or friends.
What do you like to do after a day's skiing?
Without hesitation, I head for the spa baths. Every ski resort has one, it's so easy! For a little touch of luxury I would opt for some beauty treatments. Maybe a massage or body sculpting, the choice is enormous : Hibiscus flowers, Dead Sea salt, Tibetan stones, even chocolate (strictly for the gourmets!)... After such a programme my relaxation is absolute.
Your very favourite "Made in the Hautes Pyrenees" activity?
Trekking and Spa! A unique formula - the pure air of the great outdoors and naturally warm spa waters. During the day it's walks at magical places (Gavarnie, The National Park, the Pic du Mid...) and at the end of each afternoon it's time for those soothing waters : massages, lagoons... A delicious mix which is unique to the Hautes Pyrenees.
Your favourite spot for a peaceful walk?
I just love the Neouvielle Nature Reserve and the Aure valley. With its many lakes, its mountain pines, the rhododendrons and its jagged granite peaks one has the feeling of complete evasion. The footpath at Lac d'Aubert is great place to start to discover this magical and protected landscape. The cherry on the cake is a delicious hot chocolate upon your return to the refuge.
And you ideal weekend in the Pyrenees is?
A cosy and comfortable chambre d'hotes or a 'Charm and Character' classified hotel. To make the most of the wonderful scenery it would have to be a gentle stroll, a lovely lunch in one of the 'Bistrot des Pays' and at the end of the day a spell in the spa baths.
Tell us about the local gourmet specialities
The wines of Madiran, Noir de Bigorre pork, Bareges Gavarnie lamb... amongst many others! My weakness is for a slice of Gateau a la Broche at tea time, you will understand that I can't resist such treats!
Your recommendation for those looking for a bit of zen?
The Grand Spa Route! It follows a beautiful and varied itinerary. Each day a legendary mountain pass is crossed. one of the Grand sites is visited, as is a spa centre, and each night cosy comfortable accommodation, so full of charm.
