At 2877 metres above sea-level, the Pic du Midi is the most exceptional place from where to view the complete panorama of the Pyrénées. The Pic du Midi Observatory has been here since 1880 offering the most marvellous opportunities to astronomers, stargazers and scientists alike.
Thousands of visitors each year take the cable car to the Pic du Midi at 2877m (nearly 10000 feet!) to savour the magnificent panorama over the Pyrenees and the plains of south western France from the terraces. The Observatory itself was founded in 1880 to explore the universe and continues its important work to this day in space research, specialising in the solar system. At the top, the museum explains this great scientific adventure together with the daily life of the astronomers.
For magical memories stay at the top of the Pic for an evening or a whole night.
