The resorts of the Hautes Pyrenees are committed to the protection of the environment

The protection of the environment is the object of particular attention by the ski resorts.

Some are certified ISO 9001 version 2000- Luz Ardiden, the Domaine du Tourmalet, Pic du Midi, Peyragudes, Piau Engaly. This certification attests to the willingness of the resorts to offer products and services adapted to the desires of the client. These resorts are also working towards having the certification ISO 14001 whose aim is to reduce any negative effects of ski activities on the environment. The Domaine du Tourmalet resort, Pic du Midi, and Peyragudes resorts have already obtained this certificate. St Lary and Gavarnie resorts are in the certification process.

'Clean Mountain' days are organised at the end of each season to remove any unwanted items form the pistes, rubbish recycling and car sharing are also part of their priorities.

Many of our resorts are equally recognised by Mountain Riders who campaign to reconciliate mountain activities with the protection of the eco-systems. In order to understand the effects of climate change and the reduction in general snow levels undertook initial research into the effects of greenhouse gases on the mountain environment, St Lary actively participated in this research, the first carbon readings were taken at the beginning of 2008, the aim is to reduce emissions and light climate change in the mountains.
