Summer Autumn 2017

The Pont d'Espagne:

On the road towards Pont d'Espagne are a number of waterfalls, the route itself is spectacular. Once you have reached the parking at Puntas there are even more, and you are now entering the area of Pont d'Espagne / Cauterets, one of the most visited sites of the Pyrenees National Park. The Puntas cable-car and the Gaube chairlift provide easy access to the magnificent Gaube lake, with the mighty Vignemale towering at te head of the valley, it is the highest peak in the French Pyrenees. In clear weather it is reflected magically in the turquoise waters of the lake.

The waterfalls trail, a superb walk alongside the river:

This is the classic trail to best disover all the waterfalls which have made Cauterets famous. In the Jeret valley the trail follows the river, along the way you will come close to many fabulous waterfalls including the spectacular Cerisey falls. The path literally follows the edge of the river often through the spray from the falls.

Sweet tooth?

At the beginning of the 19th century local doctors advised those coming to take the waters to suck a boiled sweet to alleviate the sulphurous odours from the waters, so the berlingot was invented. You can discover this local speciality, which comes in a thousand different flavours, in one of the four shops in the village who continue to make this delicacy.

Do you like honey?

If so you must visit the Pavillon des Abeilles. A suprb place to discover the world of the bee, with glass fronted hives, videos and of course tastings of their various honeys. A real treat for honey lovers with passionate beekeepers to explain all.
