Ladies and gentlemen prepare your snowshoes! It is time to discover the fabulous trails of the National Park with your guide Julien. A magnificent natural world awaits, tumbling streams, the chance view of an Isard, birdsong in the forest, jagged snowy peaks all around, frozen lakes glistening in the sun. Soon you will reach the Marcadau refuge with its welcoming log fire.

Day 1

The magnificent Marcadau valley. 4 hours walking, 400 m of height gain. The walk starts gently passing the frozen waterfalls of Pont d'Espagne. The Marcadau river snakes its way through the length of the valley, a river that will be your companion for the whole walk. There is still life to be discovered in the snowy winter forests, look out for animal tracks, maybe a glimpse of an Isard. The climb towards the refuge is gentle, your arrival there in its spectacular setting will be a triumph. A fabulous day in a truly magical setting, sweet dreams...

Day 2

The circuit around the lakes. 6 hours 30 walking, +550 m / -850m.
As you take your breakfast in the warm you can admire the fabulous setting through the windows of the refuge, soon you can start to explore... with your snowshoes attached you will climb up to Lac Nere and Lac Pourtet. As the highest point reached in the day, it is the perfect spot for your picnic, surrounded by snowy summits. A fun descent across snowfields brings you back to the starting point.

Cauterets and Pont d'Espagne

Located at the very heart of the National Park, Pont d'Espagne is often described as the 'Little Canada of the Pyrenees', it is a wonderful site for cross-country skiing and snowshoeing. The panoramas are exceptional, the setting is wild yet gentle, the green of the pines against a snowy backdrop, the innumerable mountain streams and waterfalls, it is magical place. Discover Pont d'Espagne on cross-country skis or snowshoes or leave the way-marked trails for a ski touring trip. Pont d'Espagne is also a playground for all the family with a toboggan run, cafes with sunny terraces, a great place to make a snowman!
