Transfer to Spain by the Vallée d'Aure, followed by gentle warm up along the Barrosa river. Suddenly before us the immense glaciated walls of the Cirque de Barrosa appear dominating the Pic de Munia at 3134m.

You enter the wild Garganta d'Escuain, for a complete change of surroundings, here you are in the least known and least explored part of the area. Around you are gorges, cirques, torrents, abandoned villages all competing to impress with their beauty and originality…
Night in gite in the pretty village of Nerin.
You continue through a landscape of scrub towards the summit of Mondoto at 1962m where a spectacular view over the Anisclo canyon and its colony of Griffon Vultures awaits you. The Anisclo canyon is a gigantic anticlinal fold whose balconies and plateaux tower more than 1000m above the Bellos river.

If Gavarnie cannot be missed then the Cirque de Troumouse is no less grandiose. It is an extraordinary amphitheatre which is 10kms long and 1000m high, Troumouse is superb natural sanctuary. Dominated by the Pic de Munia at 3133m it is rich with endemic flowers, peat bogs and … marmots.

The Cirque de Gavarnie needs to presentation ‘To sing the praises of Gavarnie‘, said Henry Russell, ‘would be almost an injustice’, your itinerary permits you to savour the magnificence of this poem to geology and avoid the busier trails.
