A classified site. One of the best cave networks in the Pyrenees with many fine stalactites and stalagmites, formed in Aragonite, a true rock crystal. The visit is accompanied by a 'son et lumiere', through the vast galleries whose walls are covered in curtains of Aragonite, gypsum and calcium, a real mineral garden. This protected site is unique.
The Pre-history museum of Labastide

It is located in a valley where water has created the scenery with cliffs and caves... the interactive experience will help you appreciate the life of prehistoric man. Learn how to make fire, to create light with a grease lamp, then penetrate deep into the mysterious caves where video, sound and light will help you better understand the lives of our stone-age ancestors, their culture and rituals... then it is off hunting, learn how to lance the ancient spears, there is a lovely wall painting workshop for children. Finally an prehistoric acrobatic circuit for children.
The Mauvezin chateau
Constructed by the Counts of Bigorre in the 9th century and remodeled by Gaston Febus at the end of the 14th century. With its square and its dungeon in the form of a quadrangle it is a characteristic example of mediaeval military architecture. There is a mediaeval festival in August, with shows and concerts every Sunday in July, August, and September.
The Escaladieu Abbey
Many hundreds of years ago the white monks of Burgundy wanted the right to live a life of fraternity, poverty and humility and settled where the Luz and Arros rivers meet. Here they established a monastery under the protection of the powerful Mauvezin chateau and the Count of Bigorre. They gave it the name 'Stairway to Heaven' (Echelle vers Dieu). the simple beauty of the site today shows this spirit. Under its delicate coating of pink stone and ochre tiles the abbey has elegant sober lines. The vaulted capitals of brick and stone repose on red Campan marble columns, they are completely intact to this day. The buildings of the 12th and 13th centuries would also have seen the monks presence, it was also the era of Madame de Maintenon and the courtesans who used the baths in the surrounding villages. Today it is a place of peace and tranquility where the invisible past is ever present.
